Self-Publishing Workshop at CCPL

Campbell County Public Library invites you to this insightful publishing workshop on Saturday, September 21 at 10am led by four accomplished authors who have collectively published twenty books. Kathy Bjornestad, Terrell Gray, Nellie Peters, and Robin Popp will share their invaluable insights and tips on: 

• publishing options and self-publishing platforms 
• eye-catching book covers 
• editing services

Whether you prefer to go the traditional route, take a DIY approach, or want to outsource the heavy-lifting, our speakers will guide you through the options, software, and resources you'll need. Even if you haven't completed your masterpiece but are still interested in learning about the publishing process, please join us and bring your questions. 

For those interested in networking with fellow writers, the Prairie Pens Writers Group will meet at 1pm in the CCPL Pioneer Rooms following the workshop.

Kathy Bjornestad is a retired K-12 school librarian and language arts teacher. She is a Wyoming Fellowship for Creative Fiction recipient and has received an honorable mention for the Neltje Blanchan Award. Kathy has placed in multiple writing contests, published several essays in Christian Science Monitor Weekly, and most recently placed pieces in anthologies such as Pasque Petals, Passionfruit Review, and Scurfpea Publishing’s Green Elephant. She is part of South Dakota’s 2024 Speakers’ Bureau and has indie-published three children’s books: Rhymes from the Reef, Bugs in the Backyard, and The Amazing Sunny York. Her newest middle grade novel, Ghouls of Greenbotton Ward, is forthcoming in the fall of 2024, and she’s currently hard at work on an adult science fiction trilogy. Terrell Gray, aka T. Thornton Gray, is the award-winning writer of short stories, novels and screenplays, mostly in the horror and science fiction genre, but he has explored, westerns and slice of life drama. He loves to explore spiritual truths in his work. He is best known for his novella, Bilbo the Clown Fights Evil and his novel Demons Carnival. He has had numerous short stories published and his screenplay Scarecrow was chosen and produced by the Red Rocks Community College film production program in Colorado where he studied film production. Terrell served for two years on the board of directors for Wyoming Writers Inc. and is still a member of that organization. He was born and raised in the Colorado mountains, but for a good many years now, lives with his wife Nicole in Rozet WY. His major influences are writers like: Frank Peretti, Richard Matheson, Ray Bradbury, and John Steinbeck. 

Nellie Peters has been writing stories since she was old enough to hold a pencil. Unfortunately, years of self-doubt convinced her that being an author was for other, more qualified people—those with real talent. In 2021, with a new baby at home and the final semester of a Master's degree to complete, she dusted off an old story idea and sat down at the computer to finish it. Then she wrote another. The writing bug had well and truly bitten, and she finally realized this was what she was meant to do. She released her debut novel, a clean paranormal/urban fantasy romance titled The Vampire's Masquerade, in May of 2023 and has since released four more books in the same series.  • From a young age, Robin has been captivated by the art of storytelling. Her imagination was sparked by the Nancy Drew mystery books and the iconic Star Trek television series. In 2003, Robin released her debut book, Too Close to the Sun, which was a finalist in the Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart contest. She went on to publish eight more books before stepping away from writing for a time. Robin returned to her passion for writing in 2022. Now, free from the responsibilities of raising children and retired from her day job, Robin dedicates all her time and energy towards crafting stories that enchant readers with elements of the paranormal and science fiction, along with hints of romance and mystery, that keep them on the edge of their seats. This past March, Robin released Death at the Double R, the first book in her new paranormal mystery and romance series, Texas After Dark. The second book in this series is due out later this year. In addition to her paranormal mystery and romance novels, Robin has recently embarked on a new journey as a children's book author, publishing under the pseudonym Robin Gail Bunn.
