Description

Ruta Sepetys, New York Times Bestselling Young Adult Author is visiting Campbell County junior high students October 9-13 and is presenting a free public event at CCPL! Sepetys’ books will be available for purchase and autographing. Students in grades 7-12 have nominated three of Sepetys titles for Wyoming Soaring Eagle awards and her book I Must Betray You won first place in 2022-2023. The Wyoming Library Association and the Wyoming State Literacy Association sponsor three book awards to provide an opportunity for the youth of Wyoming to read and select favorite books and to honor the authors of those books. They also sponsor Indian Paintbrush (grades 4-6) and Buckaroo (grades K-3) awards. “Sepetys is an internationally acclaimed, #1 New York Times bestselling author of historical fiction published in over sixty countries and forty languages. She is considered a “crossover” novelist as her books are read by both students and adults. Winner of the Carnegie Medal, Ruta is renowned for giving voice to underrepresented history and those who experienced it. “Ruta is the daughter of a Lithuanian refugee. Born in Michigan, Ruta is passionate about the power of history and story to foster global dialogue and connectivity. She has been invited to present at NATO, European Parliament, the U.S. Capitol, the Library of Congress, and embassies worldwide. She was awarded The Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Fellowship for her studies on human resilience. The New York Times Book Review declared, “Ruta Sepetys acts as champion of the interstitial people so often ignored—whole populations lost in the cracks of history.” “Ruta lives with her family in the hills of Tennessee.” —https://rutasepetys.com/about/ Sepetys’ visit is coordinated by CCPL, in partnership with Campbell County School District, and thanks to a Campbell County Community Public Recreation District grant.
