Description

Campbell County Public Library and the Campbell County Historical Society are pleased to welcome Wyoming author Rodger McDaniel to speak about his latest book Profiles in Courage: Standing Against the Wyoming Wind. “[Profiles in Courage] is a book about that most admirable of human virtues - courage. These are the stories of nine Wyoming citizens and three groups of citizens, i.e., the Black 14, the People of the Wind River Indian Reservation and the internees of Heart Mountain. It’s about the grace with which they endured the risks to their careers, the unpopularity of their courses, the defamation of their characters, and sometimes, but sadly only sometimes, the vindication of their reputations and their principles. This book is about the flashes of courage these women and men exhibited when it mattered most.” The author has also written: Howard Zinn and Lois Mottonen Fistfight in the Equality State, The Man in the Arena: The Life and Times of U.S. Senator Gale McGee and Dying for Joe McCarthy’s Sins-The Suicide of Wyoming Senator Lester Hunt. McDaniel has a University of Wyoming law degree and a Master of Divinity Degree with Honors from the Iliff School of Theology in Denver. He served 10 years in the Wyoming legislature, practiced law for 25 years, and recently retired from the Highlands Presbyterian Church in Cheyenne. Rodger was a 2000 Fellow at the Cathedral College of Faith and Culture. He and his wife Patricia live in Laramie. They have two children and five grandchildren.
