Basin Electric Power Cooperative, headquartered in Bismarck, North Dakota, generates and transmits wholesale electric power to 137 member electric cooperatives in nine states: Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Basin Electric operates over 5000 megawatts of electric generating capacity and maintains 2,250 miles of high-voltage transmission line as of year-end 2011. Basin Electric’s generating portfolio includes coal, gas, oil, nuclear, wind and recovered energy generation.
